“Riding perched on the seat behind Jaimeson, I recalled how deceiving the gentle passage of time could be. I fingered my mother’s locket where it hung faithfully around my neck, and considered the tiny ancient clay tile that lay within — a token from the notorious Miss Penn. Despite her dubious reputation in some circles, I believed her fortune-telling held portent. Her words chilled me as they echoed in my memory again. Mr. Manush’s and my path together would be long. I couldn’t fathom how I would come to understand the dark man’s purpose — the riddle she’d set before me — especially well enough to take the tile to him, as she’d bid me to accomplish. He desired the set of stones for himself, of course, but that answer rung hollow. I hadn’t the means to give him the tile now in any event. The intricate fabric of timelines unknown waved a flag of warning at the corner of my comfort. The sparkling oval copper-toned stone and the Journey key in my pouch gave promise and threat of travels far beyond this simple automobile journey to my Snoqualmie home.

As we reached the deeply shadowed stand of tall trees that marked the edge of Father’s property, I dismissed the mystery of the stones. Curiosity of another sort weighed heavily on my heart. I longed to return to 1941 to visit the elder Thomas Worthington at his future bookshop to see if the sadness had gone from his face. He’d waited so long to add the twist of meeting me first in the future, rather than leaving our meeting here in 1910 to chance. Had he erased the matter that caused him such pain? It would be nigh impossible to rest until I knew. But fatigue had set in with a vengeance, and as the light faded above the ridge, so did my resolve to travel tonight. Escape in the morning would be difficult, with the hullabaloo of preparation for Father’s birthday, but I was determined to find a way.”

    2. So I don’t usually read on Smashwords, do you have a Kindle or will Smashwords load to a Kindle? How would we trade? My Kindle is only 2.99. Do you have something for about that price?

Hmm, well I suppose I should read your first book first, so I think I’d like that one. Smashwords allows one to download in pdf or epub version, whichever suits you best if you’re downloading the sample. I could email you a word.doc copy of my novel, which works on ereaders as well 🙂

    3. Sounds good. I’ll buy the epub in about a week. Do you want to read the first book of my series first? You can actually start with this one and it will make sense, but if you prefer to trade to read the first one and review it, that would be fine. Warning…I take a little while to read things, but I’ll definitely review yours when I’m done. Do you want the review posted on Smashwords? I would want it posted on Amazon. Thanks for this! It’s fun to exchange reviews. I’ve done it with others in my area.

Uhm, do your books have blood/violence in them? I’m sorry, I forgot to ask, but I am very sensitive to that and can’t read or watch any. And take your time to read it! I don’t mind 🙂

    4. There’s no violence that’s played out at all graphically. There’s a swordfight, but nothing is described in detail, just pinned against the helm. Miss Liv does hit someone with her parasol during the melee. That sort of thing. It’s a very tame book full of adventure and romance but not gritty or graphic.
